The Impossible Book: Pamphlets as Sculptural Objects
About
A hands-on bookmaking workshop in MoMA's Creativity Lab on Floor 2, led by artist kathy wu and designed with the Center for Book Arts: you learn a three-hole pamphlet stitch, make a sixteen-page booklet, then use chance and material play, prompted by Surrealist works such as Meret Oppenheim's Object, to make deliberately impossible books. This is the second session, Saturday, November 7, 9 to 11am (the first is October 24), and it is recommended for adults and teens. It is free, with registration or RSVP required, at MoMA, 11 W 53rd St, near the 5 Av/53 St station (E, M). Later that day the Center for Book Arts runs its paid Paper Case Binding class (11am to 5pm), also on our calendar.
