Floral arranging classes in NYC, every studio, priced

11 places to learn to arrange flowers in New York City — bouquet nights in flower shops, the Chelsea flower school a block from the wholesale market, the two botanical gardens, and Japanese ikebana. For each: the price per person, how long it runs, what you carry home, how long it lasts and what is included.

The short answer

A floral arranging class in New York costs $50 to $135 a person, with the middle of the market around $112. The cheapest seat is Stems Brooklyn’s $50 session in Bushwick, and ikebana at RESOBOX in the East Village is $79. FlowerSchool New York’s introductory class in Chelsea is $125 plus a service fee.

Most classes run an hour and a half to two hours and you leave with the arrangement, usually in a vessel you keep. The botanical gardens teach it as adult education: $96 at Brooklyn Botanic Garden and $118 at the New York Botanical Garden, a little less for members.

Which kind of floral class

Flower-shop evenings

Small classes taught in a working shop — PlantShed caps its at ten, built around one seasonal bloom or a hand-tied bouquet. The cheapest way in, and the most sociable.

The flower school

FlowerSchool New York, a block from the Chelsea wholesale market, is the one place with a path from a single evening class to multi-day and professional courses.

Botanical gardens

Brooklyn Botanic Garden and the New York Botanical Garden run floral design as adult education: fewer dates, more technique, and they fill early.

Ikebana

Japanese flower arranging is its own discipline. RESOBOX teaches the Ohara school about twice a month; you keep the stems, not the vessel.

How a floral arranging class works

Most classes start with a short demonstration: how to condition stems (a fresh angled cut, leaves stripped below the waterline), how to build a structure of greenery first, then place focal flowers and fillers so the arrangement reads from every side. Then you build your own with the teacher going round the table.

Seasonal flowers are the norm, so the studio chooses the varieties on the day; a class built around one flower, such as dahlias, usually costs more. Change the water every day or two and re-cut the stems, and a mixed arrangement typically lasts about a week — FlowerSchool New York says five to seven days with care.

Free and outer-borough options

Brooklyn Public Library has run free flower-arranging workshops for older adults — Mill Basin Library held one on 9 June 2026 — so its events calendar is worth checking. In the Bronx, the New York Botanical Garden is the option; we found no floral arranging class on Staten Island.
