Pétanque in the Park
About
Pétanque in the Park is a free learn-and-play session on the pétanque court in Washington Square Park, Greenwich Village. Members of a club described as the city's longest-running pétanque club teach newcomers the rules, and NYC Parks provides the boules, so you do not need to bring anything. The game is a French form of lawn bowling dating from the early twentieth century, and the listing calls it easy to learn, so first-timers are welcome. This session is on Wednesday 14 October from noon to 3pm, a lunchtime slot. Our listing marks it as free, and no age limit or registration is printed, so treat it as drop-in. Washington Square Park is at Washington Square, New York, NY 10012. Take the A, B, C, D, E, F or M to W 4 St-Washington Sq, or the N, R or W to 8 St-NYU. There are four pétanque sessions on the calendar: Monday 12 October, this Wednesday, Monday 19 October and Wednesday 21 October. The same day also brings Art in the Park for children at 3pm and Salsa Social at 6pm, both in Washington Square Park, so you can build a whole free afternoon around the park.
