Pétanque in the Park

About

Pétanque in the Park is a free learn-and-play session on the pétanque court in Washington Square Park, Greenwich Village. Members of a club described as the city's longest-running pétanque club teach you how the game works, and NYC Parks supplies the boules, so you only need to bring yourself. Pétanque is a French lawn bowling game from the early twentieth century, and the listing calls it easy to learn, so complete beginners are welcome to join in. This session is on Monday 12 October from 1pm to 4pm. Our listing marks it as free, and no age limit or registration is printed, so it reads as a drop-in. It is a relaxed, social way to spend an autumn afternoon in the park rather than a formal class. Washington Square Park is at Washington Square, New York, NY 10012. Take the A, B, C, D, E, F or M to W 4 St-Washington Sq, or the N, R or W to 8 St-NYU. Four pétanque sessions are on the calendar: this one, Wednesday 14 October from noon, Monday 19 October from 1pm and Wednesday 21 October from noon. Salsa Social takes over Garibaldi Plaza on Wednesday evenings, and Park Open Studio runs at 1pm from Thursday to Saturday.
